Winter
A quiet and cozy season
The landscape of the newly pruned vineyards, at rest, contributes to the peace and calm throughout the Penedès wine region. The cozy hotels and rural accommodation among vineyards invite you to spend a pleasant stay with family and friends, perhaps around a nciely set table, a fireplace and, hopefully, with a bottle of wine.
With the exception of a few episodes of more intense cold, temperatures tend to be moderate during the winter, especially if it is sunny at midday. So in general, it won't stop you from enjoying sports, outdoor activities and wine bars, most of which are open on weekends even during the winter.
Still, when it is cold, it is usually humid, so bundle up well! And if you visit the northern villages of Penedès, such as Pontons or La Llacuna, about 600m above sea level, make sure to pack up a good coat. Occasionally, you may see snow falling.
To take on a wine tour around is a good option in the winter. Feel the warmth inside a cellar, make it better with some cheese or local charcuterie and, of course, warm up your soul with a glass of wine. In addition, it is calçots (sweet onion) and xató season. Can you think of a more comforting way to stay warm?
