El Montmell
El Montmell, known as the ceiling of Baix Penedès, is one of the most singular places in the region. It has 1,863 habitants who are distributed in the eight different population centres, and El Montmell has a unique personality. La Joncosa del Montmell, located at 429 metres, is the historic centre of the town, and it reunited the major part of the elements which make this town special.
Apart from la Joncosa del Montmell, El Montmell has more population centres, like Aiguaviva, Can Ferrer de la Cogullada, Mas Mateu, el Mirador del Penedès, la Moixeta, la Talaia Mediterrània and Pinedes Altes.
This town has some special elements, like the Cave of the Pot, with archeological remains and hot mouths: fountain of hot water located by foot of Marmellar’s Castle. This little town, uninhabitednowadays, is a good place for hikers. Moreover, there are patrimonial remains, like Montmell’sCastle or Can Ferrer’s Castle. Furthermore, there are elements from the megalithic culture, and it has to be remarked the particular house in Aiguaviva, ‘la Casa Gran’.
On the other hand, El Montmell has a lot of churches, the New Church of Sant Miquel del Montmell, the Old Church of Sant Miquel del Montmell, the Church of Mare de Déu del Remei or Sant Marc’s Hermitage.
Finally, Festa Major from la Joncosa del Montmell is on the 3rd or 4th weekend of August. Moreover,each population centre has its own Festa Major. L’Aplec d'Aiguaviva (29th June), l’Aplec de Sant Marc (may), Can Ferrer (11th September), La Moixeta (1st weekend of August), Pinedes Altes (2nd weekend of August) and finally, la Talaia Mediterránea and el Mirador del Penedès (3rd weekend of August).
