Maricel Museum
Located in the old Sant Joan Hospital building (14th c), between 1910 and 1914 it was reconverted into the residence of American industrialist and collector Charles Deering by artist Miquel Utrillo. It houses the collection of ancient (Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque) and modern (Romanticism, Luminism, Modernism and Noucentisme) sculptures and paintings from Dr. Jesús Pérez Rosales’ and Sitges’s collections. Some of the most outstanding items, among others, are the collection of Gothic paintings on wood, the works from the Luminist School (Joan Roig i Soler, Arcadi Mas i Fontdevila, Joaquim de Miró and Antoni Almirall), others by Santiago Rusiñol, Joaquim Sunyer, the hall decorated with Josep M. Sert’s mural paintings of allegories of the Great War (1916), as well as the collection of Catalan Modernist and noucentista sculptures. Also deserving special attention is the group of capitals decorating the exterior windows of the entire Maricel premises, works done by the noucentista sculptor Pere Jou.
