Summer
Endless plans for the summer
To many, the official welcome to the summer is celebrated on St. John’s Eve, June 23rd, and lasts until...well, until good weather is over! The days get longer, the sun shines brightly and although traditionally Penedès has not been related to a summer destination...we have the sun and the beaches! You can spend your morning enjoying the sea on the beaches of Baix Penedès and Garraf and the afternoon taking on a wine tour and a tasting, strolling through local fairs, festivals, concerts and outdoor activities. Plenty of all of that, in fact. It is all about living out in the street all day and finding fun for everyone!
The chances of rain are low. Summer days in Penedès will be mainly clear and sunny, and as in most parts of the country, we recommend avoiding the hottest hours. The vines are in full growth: leaves paint a beautiful green scenery, grapes come out, change color during the summer, begin to ripen and then it comes the beginning of the most important moment of the year: the harvest of the earliest grape varieties. And with the harvest, all the activities in the vineyard to experience it first hand! September is really one of the most important moments in Penedès, when there are more visitors and also activities to do.
What makes this time of year very attractive are the summer evenings and nights, when gatherings, moments, friendships, romance and unforgettable memories are created. The pleasant temperatures at night- take a thin jacket with you, though- invite you to dine on the terraces of restaurants and wineries, which take advantage of the season to offer themed gastronomic nights or concerts, and the wine bars are open until late.
Penedès is buzzing with summer festivals, diades castelleres -human towers exhibitions- and Festes Majors -local festivities-, and you can experience up close these moments, which locals have been looking forward to the whole year. The only problem with summer is that we don not have enough days on the calendar for all the plans we want to do!
