Dry stone in Banyeres del Penedès
From Banyeres del Penedès, a route has been made that follows a circular route starting from said municipality through the Mare de Déu del Priorat chapel, to then continue on a route that borders the Valva Roja and passes by the xalet del Freixes, sighting multiple Dry Stone barracks throughout the route. Finally, we return to Banyeres by the avenue of the Mare de Déu de Priorat.

The Dry Stone route around the Valva Roja and els Boscos

This route is done around Banyeres del Penedès, as well as the Valva Roja and els Boscos. During this route, the gradient is just 48m both positive and negative, which makes the route suitable for all audiences, starting from the highest point in Banyeres and descending as you go, to finally climb again when returning to the municipality. As you go down, you can see the dry stone barracks that are still well preserved today.

Elements of interest

Mare de Déu de Priorat Chapel

This chapel is in Romanesque-Gothic style and was built between the 12th and 14th centuries and is located between Banyeres and Gornal. The first instance of this chapel is from 1158, in the will of Ponç Pere de Banyeres. The sarcophagus is inside the chapel, supported by four decorated columns symbolising a flower.

Dry Stone Barracks

The Barracks of Banyeres are characterised by having a square or circular floor plan. The portals are usually single or double lintels, with a relieving arch.
