Olèrdola, a medieval town in the heart of the Penedès
Museum opening hours
At the beginning of the 10th century, Count Sunyer promoted the creation of a city south of the Llobregat. The strategic Sant Miquel mountain, surrounded by cliffs and where a powerful castellum had been built in the Republican Roman era, became the chosen site. A border castle was created from the Roman watchtower and, at its feet within the imposing walls, a city with houses, workshops, cellars and barns. The pre-Romanesque church of Sant Miquel and its cemetery of anthropomorphic tombs would be responsible for watching over the souls of Christians.
The city immediately grew and a large suburb was created outside the walls presided over by the church of Santa Maria and its cemetery.
We propose a tour to discover what the medieval city and its inhabitants were like: from the lords of the castle to the farmers, passing through the stonemasons, the blacksmiths... Where were the houses?, what were they like and what did the people who lived in Olèrdola ? Get to know unique places in the city, such as the wall and the cistern, while you walk among the archaeological remains of old houses and wine cellars.
Preu de la visita comentada: 46€/grups de 20 persones. Més de 20 pax, 2,30 € per persona extra.
