Cal Figarot · Castellers de Vilafranca del Penedès
Castellers de Vilafranca is a Catalan cultural and sporting institution whose main objective is to make huma towers or castells. They are a non-profit organization and are considered an entity of public interest.
La Colla was founded in 1948, as a result of the great fondness, tradition and roots of human towers events in Vilafranca del Penedès, which goes back to the times of the Ball of Valencians (18th century), a precursor to the current towers.
Nowadays, more than a thousand people of all ages are part of the Colla, in a free and voluntary manner without any social, political, cultural or religious distinction. It all share the same interest to build human towers, democratic values, cooperation and teamwork, the spirit of constant overcoming, and being able to be at the forefront of the casteller world.
The headquarter of the Castellers de Vilafranca is Cal Figarot, Casa Via Raventós, acquired in 1983. It consists of a neo-Gothic building from the end of the 19th century and an adjacent building, constructed later, acquired by the entity in 1998. Both properties have been rehabilitated to be able to do our activity. The second building is an interior space that has 600 m2. From the neo-gothic building, it is worth noting the sober aspect it exhibits, full of nineteenth-century details that would serve as inspiration for different buildings of the town. Here we have the office, the archive, the multipurpose rooms and the restaurant-cafeteria service. However, if there is a place that stands out above others it is the magnificent patio, the true core of the social area. Cal Figarot is nowadays a house visited and admired by the casteller world.
During the castellers season, the trials are Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, and are open to the public for anyone who wishes to attend and get thrilled by the emotion of the human towers.
